AQA, Devas Street, Manchester
THE CHALLENGE
AQA needed a large space that embraced collaborative work space, meeting space and quiet office space. In order to embody the modern aesthetics that had been requested, AQA and interior designers worked together to use a neutral minimalistic colour palette to it’s full benefit. This included a natural wood veneer, light grey soft finishings and the living column in the centre of the collaborative space.
THE APPROACH
In order to contrast and tie the colour palette of the floors, finishings and fixings in with some of the black accents, black finished ironmongery was chosen – contrasting with the light natural wooden doors. The LRV (Light Reflectance Value) of this collaboration means that the black kickplates and door furnishings emulate the modern feel.
THE BUILDING
Devas Street, Manchester is located between Greenheys and Chorlton-On-Medlock, home to some of Manchester’s most famous buildings, such as the Manchester Theatre and The Whitworth art gallery. The AQA, the largest of the three examination boards in England, is based in an octagonal building, with a pointed roof and it was designed by Playne and Lacey and built in 1962.
