THE CHALLENGE
The refurbishment of 151–153 London Road, Macclesfield involved the sensitive transformation of a previously underused building into a specialist mental health facility. The key challenge was to create a safe, supportive, and dignified environment for residents with complex mental health needs, while ensuring the building met strict safety standards. Particular attention was required around internal fixtures and fittings, where reducing risk without creating an institutional feel was essential.
THE APPROACH
To support the specialist requirements of the facility, we supplied anti-ligature door hardware throughout the fit-out. Carefully selected to minimise potential ligature points, the ironmongery plays a critical role in resident safety while maintaining a clean, modern appearance. Robust and discreet by design, the hardware integrates seamlessly with the interiors, supporting both staff functionality and resident wellbeing without compromising on durability or aesthetics.
THE BUILDING
The refurbished building now provides high-quality supported accommodation, offering self-contained living spaces alongside communal and staff areas designed to promote independence, comfort, and care. Architecturally, the scheme respects its surroundings on London Road while delivering modern, purpose-built interiors tailored to healthcare use. The completed project transforms a once neglected site into a valuable community asset, delivering safe, thoughtfully designed accommodation that supports positive mental health outcomes.
