The Pyramid, Stockport

THE CHALLENGE

The word ‘iconic’ is arguably very over-used but if you’ve ever been stuck in traffic on the M60 near Stockport, or surveyed the surroundings from the redbrick viaduct, you’ll know that the big blue triangle on the horizon is worthy of this title. For this project, designers chose the Prostyle knurled finish to perfectly pair with The Royal Nawaab’s refined décor, ensuring cohesion and subtle luxury.

THE APPROACH

Our Prostyle Satin Stainless Steel finish exudes a clean, modern feel which complimented the modern aesthetic of the architecture of the building. Exuding further luxury, designers also chose a complimentary Satin Brass finish for some doors. The selection of mitred knurled pull and lever handles creates a seamless and sophisticated look, ensuring a harmonious balance between functionality and design. This combination enhances the door’s usability while maintaining a sleek, polished appearance that aligns perfectly with the building’s contemporary style. The high-quality satin stainless steel and satin brass finishes not only adds a touch of luxury but also promises durability and resistance to wear, making it an ideal choice for any high-traffic environment.

THE BUILDING

Jokingly dubbed the ‘eighth wonder of the world’, the Stockport Pyramid – built in the late 1980s – was originally part of the ‘Valley of the Kings’ project, which aimed to see five pyramids erected along the River Mersey.

However, the developers went bankrupt in 1992, meaning it was the only one constructed. The project’s main lender – the Co-operative Bank – moved in three years later, running its call centre there before relocating to Manchester’s NOMA neighbourhood in 2018.

Award-winning restaurant chain Royal Nawaab received the green light to transform the pyramid into a huge restaurant and banqueting venue with space for 1,500 diners and 500 car parking spaces, including 40 electric charging portals.

There are also three banqueting suites in total, catering from 60 guests all the way up to 800.
